Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) and access to KIS

SAS have recently switched on access to ECS for their call handlers in the Emergency Despatch Centres. Having access to ECS will also mean that KIS information will be available to SAS.

Longer term developments are in discussion to integrate KIS further with SAS users including paramedics. Paramedics will continue to have access to the basic ECS summary.

Access to KIS in NHS24

NHS 24 have full access to all KIS records and have a process in place for ensuring that KIS records are flagged on the call handling system.

As part of the NHS 24’s technology upgrade being implemented this year, NHS 24 will have KIS records fully integrated and processes in place to allow access to all staff.

Vision pre-pilot testing underway

Testing of KIS on Vision DLM440 is now underway using a new cloud based test platform provided by InPS. This testing will focus on the overall “look and feel” of the new KIS screens as well as checking specific read codes and functionality.

The testing will also focus on the training material and guidance published by InPS ahead of the pilot and national rollout of DLM440. Further information on training will be shared soon well ahead of the national rollout.

Out of Hours use of Special Notes

KIS aims to replace the existing Special Notes process for GP Practices by removing the emailing / faxing of information from practices and making this fully electronic and part of the GP System.

Following a query from Out of Hours (OOH) it can be confirmed that the existing process for OOH to add and share a Special Note with other OOH professionals will not be switched off, and this process is not part of KIS. It is very important that this communication route remains available for all OOH users.

It will be for each Health Board to decide if and when any existing process for sharing Special Notes from GP Practices should be stopped or switched off.

Update on InPS Vision national rollout timescales

The latest timescales for Vision and KIS on DLM440 are as follows:

The national Rollout is planned to start on 17th May 2013
The rollout will take approximately 2 weeks to complete and all practices should be live by the end of May. Any changes to the timescales will be updated on here and on the KIS Newsletter.

Boards and practices are advised that guidance on the DLM440 release is available on the InPS website.
